A Little Sanctuary On Top of the Mountain

Moiwa Mountain is a mountain that is located in the middle of Sapporo city. Being reachable in about 45 minutes by train from Susukino area makes it one of the most visited sites in Sapporo city.

From Susukino station, just take the tram and get off at the Ropeway Iriguchi Mae station (190yen), and then you can take a free shuttle bus that takes you right to the entrance of the Ropeway Station. The ticket will be 1,700yen round trip for the ropeway and the mini cable car.

My advice is to go before dawn so you can see the view of Sapporo city from the observation deck in daylight and at night. Invite your friends and family, take your drink and you can have a perfect evening watching the beautiful sunset.

After watching the sunset, you can go down to the theater room where you can watch a short movie about the history of Sapporo city. The movie is surprisingly interesting, it tells you why Sapporo is related to a star (which is the symbol of Sapporo city), about Sapporo life in all four seasons, and why people love Sapporo. Finishing the movie, the backdrop will remove itself by scrolling up like a curtain and reveals the night view of Sapporo city, making your jaw drop.

Ready to go up to the observation deck again? Don’t forget to bring your jacket or coat with you as it can get windy and cold even in summer. Put on your earphone and listen to your favorite music. Take your time to enjoy this eye candy scenery. Take as many pictures as you want. Do not forget to ring the bell of the Satellite thing at the observation deck! It is actually a bell that is meant to give a blessing for couples, who rang it, but you can also ring it even if you are alone, you are not breaking any laws and nobody will arrest you, so who cares, right?

After having enough, take the mini cable car again, and you can stop by at the souvenir shop in between the stations. Then take the free shuttle bus back to the tram station. You can sleep on the way back to your accommodation, or you can start editing and uploading your photos to Facebook or Instagram and make your friends envy.

Go to your bed and believe that tomorrow will be a much better day as you have got the blessing from the Satellite thing!
